Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, producer, and all-round creative. He has carved a niche for himself in the industry by blending surreal sounds together to form one cohesive sound. CKay is best known for combining genres together and you'll always hear two or more genres on records he records or produces.
CKay was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ekweani the city of Kaduna, Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria. He is originally from Enugu and was introduced to music by his father who was a choir conductor, and by 13, CKay had begun producing and writing music in a Christian group, where he nurtured his musical skills. He started taking music seriously when he graduated from secondary school and started mingling with other music enthusiasts in my city. He formed a group with two of his friends called, cre8tive music and they were really popular in Kaduna back then. They organized a concert and sold all the tickets. That was when he realized how big this little thing they were doing could be. He wanted more and he decided to move to Lagos. So he saved money for a period of 9 months and one day just left home.
A friend of his took him to chocolate city’s A&R, Moti Cakes, and he played his music and this got him a gig as an intern at Chocolate City. He worked with the like of Dice Ailes, Pryse, MI, Ice Prince, Koker, Milli and other artists. He produced and wrote songs for artistes. He eventually got offered a production contract, and a year later, he was offered an artiste contract.
His big break came with the release of his Afro-house single, Container.
