Born June 18th in Harare, Zimbabwe, Gerry Garikai Munashe Mapanzure was raised in Masvingo. He released in first single titled Wapunza  in 2017 on the 22nd of August which was a national hit and still is to date. The song's video has been aired on national television countless times as well as being played on Trace AFRICA.

He went on to release his second single entitled Moyo Muti on the 14th of February 2018 which was another hit and is still. His first song Wapunza featuring his brother Victor Mapanzure had 100k views on youtube in a period of 7 months and later dropped second single in February 2018 and both have been received well by the audience. Garry has two (2) Awards to his name for the single Wapunza.

Early Life

Garry realised that he had a gift of singing when he was 11 years old. He performed in the Masvingo theatre multiple times during his school which resulted in him catching the eyes of many, however as a result of his age he couldn’t venture into music yet. He was interviewed by his city's local newspaper at a very tender age. In his early years of high school Garry became the youngest student to ever join the choir. He also played for his school rugby team at all age groups . His talent in rugby saw him being selected for the national team during his final high school year. Going back to music, he was selected choir captain in his senior year at the school and received Honourary Music Awards from the National Institute of Allied Arts, Eisteddford board.

Career

Garry is a student of Architecture at North China University of Technology in Beijing, China. His music career started in August 2017 and his breakthrough track was Wapunza (released on 22 August 2017) and it was well received in most parts of the world, followed by Moyo Muti which was released in February 2018. Garry went further to release Truth Or Dare and he also was selected as the first Zimbabwean artist for Mr Eazi's #EMPAWA100 programme under which he released the track Slow. Garry also did a featured track with Hilzy titled TV Room which got the attention of many and won an AFRIMA Award for the best Group/ Duo in African R n B. In July 2019, Garry released Your Man, a track which has since hit the #1 spot on Trace Africa's Playlist Top 30. Garry has since moved to the United Kingdom where he signed with Runabeat Music with an EP release on the cards for February 2020. The EP entitled Sushi Season: The First is currently touring England, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
