The past 6 months have been busy for us - we formed the band, put out a few singles, shot 4 music videos, and just released our debut album A.R.T. Project. The album combines influences of hip hop, indie pop, and afro-beat that we have shared since we met in college near Washington D.C. in 2005.
The group is comprised of Nigerian artist Abdu and production duo VHS Safari consisting of D.C. natives David and Will. We developed the concept for A.R.T. Project during a long, cold winter in Brooklyn, working in our basement studio while dreaming of taking our music to warmer places. Kahli’s experiences and musical inspiration from Nigeria are a driving force on the album - at times deliberate and at times more subtle having rubbed off on the hip hop and indie pop production from VHS Safari.
90’s hip hop beats and indie pop synthesizers blend with the rhythms, beautiful melodies, guitar and driving percussion that encompass music from Africa. Kahli’s combination of rapping and singing tie everything together with personal stories, and meaningful observations on the beauty and struggles in the world.
When performing live Kahli Abdu and VHS Safari electronically trigger samples of guitars, synthesizers and more with live drums and touches of other live instrumentation.
We are excited to have recently joined New Frontier Touring, represented by Gregg Little.
