Lex whose government name is Wole Oyekan, was born on the 14th of October. He is the founder of the AlphaTryyb movement alongside a couple like-minded close friends of his, including the producer behind the first politically conscious single, Blind, from his first official project, 1960. A 7 track EP in which Lex produced four.

According to Lex; he got influenced by the raw energy of music from a young age and from watching popular acts on TV, as my mom (bless her soul) always made sure I was close to her and away from the sinking-sands and clutches of the streets.

Lex goes further to tell us, “I always had the enthusiasm to construct my own music Projects in my high school Rainbow College. I was also their chief debating speaker from js1 to ss3. Sadly, on finishing high school, I lost my mom. That unfortunate occurrence made my mind and heart, dark and cold towards the world for years to come, and I should say, is one of the main factors behind my dark sound…I don't believe in happy endings. You decide your fate with the words from your mouths and the deeds of your hands. Getting into the university (Unilag), I was became frustrated by the backwardness of our educational system, this was when I started to think hard about a career in music”

Lex deferred two semesters at the university, unknown to his family, to learn how to produce, mix and master his own projects as he was only able to put enough money together to make it happen. It was easy to disguise and hide this because his siblings schooled in the United Kingdom at the time and his father had also passed away in the late 2001.

Lex says, “1960, was the result of that sabbatical”. 1960 the EP is my frustrations, thoughts and bare self-expressions of the challenges I was facing as a young Nigerian trying to make it big in the hustle and bustle of Lagos state. I didn't decide on being politically inclined, it was just a moment of self-expression and honesty about what I was going through around that time in my life”
