Mayowa Adewale Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun has become a household name in the African music scene. The DMW act has made a number of hits and sold out a number of venues, thereby stamping a strong foothold as a big act in the continent.
Mayorkun is the first of three children, born in Osun State to a family of talented people. His mother is a Nollywood actress and his father is a movie producer. Mayorkun started owning his musical craft at a young age when he joined the choir. He studied accounting at the University of Lagos (Unilag) and later got a job in the banking sector.
In 2016, Mayorkun left his banking job to focus solely on his musical career and this was when Davido discovered him. He posted a cover of Davido's The Money on his twitter. Davido saw the video and reached out to him. After he officially got signed, Mayorkun released his first record titled, Eleko. It gained 10 million views on youtube in 10 days. He later went on to drop other hits like Sade, Mama, & Bobo. He released his debut album, Mayor Of Lagos in 2018 and it went on to win R&B/Pop Album of the year at the 2019 Headies.
Mayorkun's big break came with the release of Eleko.
