Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, popularly known as Samthing Soweto, is a South African Afro-pop artist that infuses Soul, R&B, Acapella, and Amapiano into his music. He was born and raised in Prote North, Soweto, a township of Johannesburg, South Africa. His single mother raised him with three siblings. He is the third of four children.
At the age of 15, Samthing started getting involved in criminal acts and other social vices. He was sent to a youth detention center for armed robbery and that was when he fell in love with music. This eventually helped him to break out of the life of crime and drug addiction.
After he was released from the detention centre, he decided to go back to school. He took an interest in the school choir and started attending their performances. This led him to create a group called, The soil. During his time in the group, he started learning how to produce music. He then released his first solo project titled, This N That Without Tempo. He also started making music with another band called, The Fridge, but later left all groups to go full-time solo.
In 2019, Samthing Soweto released his second project, titled Isphitiphithi. He broke the record of the highest pre-order/pre-add on AppleMusic South Africa currently held by Billie Eilish. Akulaleki, a record off the album peaked at number-one on the Apple Music chart.
Samthing Soweto break-out came with his feature producer Sun-El Musicians' acclaimed song, Akanamali.
