Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., known by his stage name Shatta Wale (formerly Bandana), is a Ghanaian born Reggae Dancehall musician. He is best known for "Dancehall King". He won Artiste of the Year at the 2014 edition of the Ghana Music Awards. Shatta Wale's musical talent was recognized from Junior High School in Ghana from Datus Preparatory School in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

 

He later joined Winneba Secondary School where he continued with his tremendous love for music mimicking the style of CJ lewis and other stars like Shabba Ranks and Shaggy. He co joined another singer and artist Duke Thompson as they became an entertaining group, Duke now with the Group D2, but by then using the stage name "Tobacco" and Shatta wale then using the name "Doggy". Shatta Wale and Tobacco then got so much attention at school that, their seniors and juniors got anticipated with them waiting for their Saturday entertainment bash to arrive early.

 

Shatta Wale changed his name to "Bandana" after senior high school and released the hit track "Bandana from Ghana". The song made tremendous air waves in the Ghanaian music industry in 2004. Shatta Wale's sudden rise to the occasion happen in 2013 VGMA awards when he threw lyrical insults to VGMA because he proclaimed they robbed him of the Dancehall artist of the year to a female Dancehall artist "Kaakie".

 

Even though the song had vulgar lyrics, it was so anticipated by the media which created his musical breakthrough. He later released more songs from his Facebook page for fans to download. His greatest song hit in 2013, Dancehall king took the airwaves by surprise. Shatta wale's musical revenue is mostly generated through hosting of shows which attracts 1000's of Ghanaian youths
